Aviator and Pumpkin

Don't you just love all the free patterns out there! I managed to whip up these awesome little hats for the amazing little Ella recently. They were pretty easy to do so too!

So first of all is the amazing Aviator hat pattern by Repeat Crafter Me. You will notice from her very professional pictures that I didn't get the goggle's entirely correct. But they looked good for my first attempt. I used the same wool as recommended by Repeat Crafter Me. I found that doing this the goggles needed to be blocked as the thick accent wool made it crinkle up.


I was surprised that the wool suggested wasn't softer as it was mainly a pattern for babies, although she does adapt the pattern for different ages which is cool.

Since it's October I decided it would be awesome to do a little Pumpkin hat. I stumbled across this cute little hat by the stichin' mommy. I was pleasantly surprised it worked well as I just used wool I had lying around that I had accumulated from various friends who were culling their stash. 

And once again little Ella modelling my creation:

I love this time of year when it is getting chilly, perfect excuse to wrap up in comfy things :)

First crochet hat

So I stepped away from trying to make toys and decided to make something I could wear. My favourite hat is now approx 10 years old and completely stretched out of shape. About time I found a new favourite hat! I decided to try my hand at making one as the others I have bought just don't seem to live up to the bar. I came across this pattern ages ago via Pinterest. I loved the colour combo by Dandelion Daze but the original pattern is by Sarah Arnold.

A Last Minute Christmas Decoration

I can't believe it's Christmas tomorrow! I decided to kill a little time tonight before Santa comes and made a little decoration. It was really easy, a lovely little pattern by Anabelia Handmade found here.

Scoodie

Took me two attempts to get this guy done - first time I attached the ends I managed to leave a twist in it. Something broke a little inside having to unravel almost 10 rows when I noticed my mistake. I would have finished it last night but ended up browsing 200 pages of boots on amazon - got a little carried away. Saw plenty to drool over but not enough pennies to own. A girl can dream.

The pattern is by Woolpedia, I used Patons Fab Big Colour shade 00087 which I felt was their nicest in this range that I found. I just hope now that I have finished this project that it will actually get cold enough in London to wear it. Too used to Scottish weather that London has just been humid to me. A few chilly days so far but nothing to write home about.

Christmas Crochet

Had a lovely chilled out Christmas where James and I watched loads, ate loads and did little else. We came across this funny family story on Reddit where this families tradition was to open a present on Christmas Eve much like many other families. What made this family different was the fact that their parents went to such lengths to trick the kids to open the pants and socks on Christmas eve by putting these in games boxes and tearing a corner of the wrapping paper. They even once made a bike shape with toilet roll. If I ever have kids I would be tempted to do this. link

This Christmas I made this little Crobot for one of my friends back in Glasgow. She has a thing for Robots, even used to own an alternative clothing store called Dead Robot. Shame it had to close, it was a cool wee shop. This is Mechanobot a pattern from Nelly Pailloux's Crobots.

Using springs and things just adds another element to this pattern. I think this is my fave thing I have made so far!

He looked so good on my mantle place. I was tempted to keep him.

He was easy and fun to make this little guy. Was so satisfying how quickly he came together. I have started working on a scoodie - now until I came across the tutorial for this I had had no idea what a scoodie was - a mix between a scarf and a hoodie for all of you out there like me. Got myself some lovely chunky wool and a chunky hook to set to work on this project. Coming along quite nicely so far.

For Christmas James got me these gorgeous hooks from Knit Pro, I can't wait to find new patterns to put them to work.

First crack at fingerless gloves

Since the weather is getting colder each day I thought it was time to stray away from amigurumi and attempt something a little more practical. Here is what I came up with:

I was pretty pleased with them but to be honest they just don't cut it for how cold it is at the moment. I think I need some proper gloves - my wee fingers are suffering!

Here is the tutorial I used to make these 'wristers'. I absolutely love the wool she uses for her own.

I went to my first weight watchers meeting today. I was referred by my nurse from my new GP. Hopefully this will be the kick in the bum I need to quit the full fat Coca-Cola and sort my portion sizes out. Can't keep going this way forever or I will end up where my patients are! I'm hoping that the weekly meetings will mean I actually stick to my plan and get myself sorted. 12 weeks to kick the habit!

Mastershake

After many months of laziness and poor crochet abilities I have finally finished Mastershake and delivered it to Colin. I love nerdigurumi's designs. Would love to try a few more designs once I have more time after this big move.

Mathematical!

James arrived home today :) he has been sleeping essentially since he got back though! Jet lag is a bitch. I made him Jake from Adventure Time as a coming home gift - so glad that he loved it. The pattern was easy to do - although his mouth was a bit of a pain just cause it was so tight and hard to find out where to put my hook next but I got through it. If I can, anyone can! The pattern was from Mia's Atelier, she has a few wee patterns on there I would like to try. Defo would like to do a little bit of Lumpy Space Princess action too!

James brought me back these awesome pieces of jewellery from his adventure to Vancouver and Portland. I love them. Just need to think what to wear tomorrow to show off them to their advantage. My new cool skull broach and boat necklace - love them!

He got the skull broach from a wee craft fair, so not sure who did it. The necklace was by Strangely Yours. I had a wee look at some of their stuff and feel an obsessive notion to own this necklace:

Isn't it amazing. James defo picked some nice pieces for me and introduces me to an awesome Etsy shop. The more I look, the more little gems I see!

I'm off to bed after my tiring day of doing nothing. Night all!

There's something on your face!

I had a little bit of fun using the pattern from Easy Makes Me Happy Blog. It turned out quite well but I used a smaller hook (size 4) instead of the 4.25mm as I didn't have this size. As a result there were more gaps than I would have like - tried to fill them in a little. Reasonably happy with the result though.

Off work again today due to my back, for a young woman I have an old woman's body - sigh. When I start this new job I need to go to work unless I am literally dying. Can't have any more sick days! Need to get myself in best possible health - don't want a big black mark over my name! So gonna spend my day trying to be productive and get back to that Mater Shake pattern I am having such trouble with.

Bizzy Bunny

Well my big bearded man has been away in Canada/Portland for three weeks now, two more weeks to go! Not that I am counting down or anything. It has been a tad lonely, especially with worries over the big move happening soon and our new start too. Surviving though - just. I have finished my uni degree. Been working like a dog with no pennies to enjoy myself. Hoping all works out ok, just gotta believe it will or I will get too stressed out. During the hours when I am not working, sleeping or eating I have been watching Chuck and trying to do some crochet to pass the time and ease the nerves. Here is my latest, a creation from YarnYard.

This little bunny should actually have arms and legs but they just didn't work out for me so decided to opt out. Here is a link to his video. After making it I did discover this other video which showed the best way to make stripes in line, in stead of wonky like I did.
